Byrd recuperating from kidney stones Outfielder not in lineup after procedure causes soreness By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com 08/27/09 4:37 PM ET NEW YORK -- Outfielder Marlon Byrd was back in the Rangers' clubhouse on Thursday, but not back in the lineup for what became a 7-2 win over the Yankees. Byrd was still feeling sore after undergoing a procedure to break up kidney stones on Wednesday. "If I didn't have any pain, I'd play," Byrd said. "But with the shock procedure, I can hardly move." Byrd played on Tuesday night against the Yankees, then woke up in his hotel room around 5 a.m. Wednesday feeling great pain in the left side of his body. After spending an hour trying to figure out what was wrong, he called trainer Jamie Reed. "He knew right away it was kidney stones, and they sent me to the hospital," Byrd said. "It's the first time I've ever had kidney stones. That's why I didn't know. If I had, I would have gone straight to the hospital. "I'm just sore from the procedure. Other than that, I'm fine. I just haven't been able to sleep, and I hate taking pain pills." The Rangers hope they can get Byrd back into the lineup on Friday against Twins left-hander Brian Duensing. Byrd had started 56 straight games before missing Wednesday's 9-2 loss to the Yankees. He was hitting .288 with four home runs, 13 RBIs and a .593 slugging percentage in his past 15 games. T.R.
