Hamilton hopes to return this weekend Slugger had good first night of rehab in Double-A By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com 06/30/09 10:41 PM ET ARLINGTON -- Josh Hamilton is hoping to be back in the Rangers lineup this weekend after a good first night on medical rehabilitation assignment with Double-A Frisco on Monday. Hamilton, being used at designated hitter, was 1-for-4 with a walk. He had a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base. "Last night I was a little anxious, with it being the first time back in game situations," Hamilton said on Tuesday. "I was out in front a little bit of stuff. Just like I was in rookie ball and got promoted to NY-Penn League with college players. I felt like I had to go get it because they were throwing a little bit harder because they are older." Hamilton worked out with the Rangers on Tuesday because Frisco was off due to the Texas League All-Star break. He'll join Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday in Iowa and play three games with the RedHawks. Manager Ron Washington said Hamilton will start at DH on Wednesday and then play in the outfield on Thursday. If all goes well, he could play Friday for Oklahoma City and then be activated on Saturday with the Rangers. He has been sidelined since June 2 with a torn abdominal muscle that required surgery on June 9. "I'm not going to say what my plan is because my plan I would be playing tonight," Hamilton said. "Whatever they tell me. I'm going to go play. When they feel like I've done well enough or the timing is good enough, they'll get me out of there. My target the whole time was to be back sometime during the homestand. If I do that, I'll be able to accomplish that. "The area that was fixed is not sore. I have other parts that are sore. I still feel a little tightness when I stretch out and run hard, but that's normal. It's not comfortable, but it's normal." T.R. Sullivan is a reporter for MLB.com.
