Mostly, though, it failed because Iverson's game didn't fit with the Pistons' concept of team. It doesn't have to be any more than that. We don't have to have this battle between the Iverson lovers and the anti-Iversonites, which has clogged my email basket and I am sure is dominating the chat-room blather. 失敗最大的原因是 AI 打法和活塞對於一個球隊的理念不合。 Before I go on, please understand that it's over. Iverson won't wear a Pistons uniform again, not in the regular season or the playoffs. He's done. They will knock his $21.9 million salary off the books in July and get on with rebuilding this team. AI 不論在例行賽或季後賽都不會再穿上活塞球衣。 There are some indisputable facts. Iverson, at 33, has lost a step, some of his explosiveness and his jump shot, never great, got a whole lot worse. Same could be said for his defense. As much as people kept waiting for his break-out game, waiting for him to dazzle like the AI of old, it wasn't going to happen. And missing those 16 games, more than a month of complete inactivity, pretty much insured that he wasn't returning to form. Do you really think he would just recapture the magic once the playoffs started? Curry never told him to miss layups and easy jumpers and free throws. He wasn't encouraging him dribble 20 seconds off the shot clock then throw the ball out of bounds. Did anybody expect the Pistons to start running and gunning because they acquired Iverson? It wasn't going to happen. They never made the extra effort to help him fit in. And when Curry chose to send Richard Hamilton to the bench instead of AI, well, if the team wasn't fractured before, it was then. For all his talk about doing whatever it took to win a championship, he couldn't do the only thing the Pistons asked of him. Come off the bench. He says his back still hurts, and you have to take his word. But, to miss a month and not do any conditioning, not even as little as riding a stationary bike, of course he's going to be sore when he first comes back. What was the old Sparky Anderson line, "Pain don't hurt you." Had Iverson been starting and being asked to play 35 minutes, my guess is he would have fought through the pain. This is a sure-bet hall-of-fame player whose skills have been eroded by time. The problem is, Iverson still doesn't believe his skills have diminshed. He will look you in the eye and say he's still the same player, capable of scoring 30 points a night consistently. Brown had his time with Iverson and he's not looking for a sequel. No, I could see Iverson with the Clippers, maybe the Warriors, maybe even in Phoenix. But he better make up his mind now that he's going to take a severe pay cut. He won't command anything close to $20 million. Not only is that insulting to me, it's wrong. There was never any issue between him and I. We never exchanged any harsh words, not even after I criticized him for some of his bizarre statements. It's funny, when the team is winning 50-plus games and I never write anything negative, people think I am a suck-up. When I do criticize a player, I must be acting out on some personal vendetta. Ridiculous. How about this -- I was just doing my job. 我和 AI 沒有任何過節！！！ --
