Cleveland LeBron James handled the Pistons fairly well, if you remember the Eastern Conference finals from last season. The Cavs need to re-sign Anderson Varejao, but not for more than $6-7 million a year. They haven’t done much to improve the team and still need to address the point guard situation that was exposed by the Spurs in the NBA Finals. 2. Boston The Celtics automatically jump to the top of the Atlantic Division and rank as one of the elite teams in the East with the additions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Garnett and Allen, along with Paul Pierce, give them three of the top 15 players in the Eastern Conference. They won’t have much depth, but that shouldn’t be too much of an issue in the East. 3. Detroit The Pistons re-signed Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess but have done little else to improve a team that has lost in the Eastern Conference finals two years in a row. Rodney Stuckey and Arron Afflalo are two good first-round picks who can contribute off the bench immediately. 4. Chicago The Bulls added more size with their top pick, Joakim Noah. Having head coach Scott Skiles and Ben Wallace on the same page for an entire season will help. The Bulls have a lot of young talent that is just starting to reach its prime. 5. Miami As long as the Heat has a healthy Dwyane Wade, it can expect to be in the playoffs every year. As LeBron and the Cavs showed, you only need one impact player on a team to advance deep into the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
