Bucs ink pact with fifth-rounder Wilson Fresno State product clinched College World Series with win By Jenifer Langosch / MLB.com 08/13/2008 7:25 PM ET == PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates moved one step closer to signing all of their top five picks from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft when the organization agreed to terms with fifth-rounder Justin Wilson, a left-hander out of Fresno State, on Wednesday. Wilson arrived in Pittsburgh, in his first visit to the city, on Tuesday and signed his first professional contract about 24 hours later. Terms of his contract were not immediately known. "I'm very excited to be here," Wilson said. "I got on the field today and am ready to get started. The Pirates are a great organization. I think I am going to fit well here. I'm just looking forward to getting settled in and start playing." Wilson will report to the Gulf Coast League Pirates, where he is expected to finish out what is left of the Minor League season. From there, Wilson will take part in the organization's fall instructional league. The 20-year-old Wilson will leave Fresno State with his last start being the one that clinched the 2008 World Series title for the Bulldogs. Wilson tossed eight innings and allowed one run in the decisive game against the University of Georgia. "It's a great note to end on," Wilson said. "It doesn't really get better than that. I think playing in front of a bigger crowd helps, but there is also a business side to pro ball and that's what I'm in now. I'm just looking forward to having fun, move through the system and perform at my level." In all, Wilson appeared in 23 games (19 starts) in his junior season at Fresno State and went 9-5 with a 4.14 ERA. He finished the year with 108 strikeouts. With Wilson now signed, the Pirates have come to terms with 29 of their 50 Draft selections. There is a midnight ET deadline on Friday for teams to come to an agreement with their June picks. --
