It marks Paul’s fifth time to win the award in his career and second time this season (Oct. 28-Nov. 2). Paul is the only Hornet to win the award five times in franchise history. “I am humbled to win this award in a conference with so many great players,” said Paul. “This is a team award and the most important thing is that we have been winning games and are heading in the direction we want to be.” Paul led the Hornets to a 3-0 week, pacing the league in steals with 5.3 per game, to go along with a team-high 23.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 10.0 assists. Paul set an NBA record by recording a steal against San Antonio on Dec. 17, marking the 106th straight regular season game he has recorded a steal in. He surpassed Alvin Robertson, whose 105 straight games with a steal mark stood for the last 20-plus years (Nov. 6, 1985-Dec. 29, 1986). Paul’s streak is currently 107 and counting. The First-Team All-NBA selection from 2007-08 has helped the Hornets capture wins in 11 of the past 13 games, including four straight victories. Paul had 18 points, nine assists, three rebounds and five steals in a 91-84 win at Memphis on Dec. 16. A night later, he collected 19 points, 12 assists, six rebounds and three steals to help beat San Antonio in a national televised game on ESPN, 90-83. On Dec. 20, Paul garnered 34 points, nine assists, four rebounds and eight steals in a 99-90 victory over Sacramento. It was the third time in his career Paul has collected at least 30 points, nine assists and eight steals, tops in NBA history. Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson have each garnered at least 30-9-8 twice.
