George Lynch's back problems from last season have resurfaced,
and the Hornets forward sat out Tuesday's 92-89 victory over
the Philadelphia 76ers at New Orleans Arena.
Lynch had started the previous three exhibition games at small
forward, but he was replaced by Lee Nailon
"I had swelling in my back, and they wanted me to take a couple
days off," Lynch said. "I'll probably miss practice tomorrow
and see how I'm feeling."
"Terry (Kofler) our trainer wanted to get some medicine in him
and see how he felt," Hornets coach Byron Scott said. "We'll
just wait and see (today) and see how he feels, and then it
will be a game-time decision on Thursday."
Meanwhile, Chris Andersen's back spasms had decreased, enough
for him to see action against Philadelphia. He picked up three
fouls in the first quarter, and he finished making one of six
field-goal attempts.
The Hornets' Jamaal Magloire returned after taking a game off
with a left ankle injury and put up the game's only double-double
-- 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Also, New Orleans guard David Wesley and forward Rodney Rogers
both sat out against the 76ers with right hamstring injuries.
NEW LOOK: Philadelphia's Allen Iverson has been moved from
shooting guard to point guard by Coach Jim O'Brien.
Against the Hornets, Iverson made four of 12 shots, scored 16
points, had two assists and six turnovers in 22 minutes.
"He's done a really nice job at creating tempo," O'Brien said.
"I know being an opposing coach in the past, I did not like to
see Allen Iverson come down the court full speed -- or even at
three-quarter speed. It's not a good feeling.
"What we've tried to do is surround him with guys that will
move and run the court and can hurt you if they load up on
Iverson. His leadership has been good as it can possibly be,
and I think he enjoys being the point guard."
FAST BREAK: With 9:55 remaining in the first quarter, Hornets
guard Baron Davis moved strong to the basket in transition,
where 76ers center Samuel Dalembert awaited.
Davis came in from the right wing, swung the ball around his
waist and then flung it over his shoulder to guard J.R. Smith,
who trailed the play and made the lay-up.
REMEMBER ME? Kirk Haston was back in a familiar spot -- the end
of the bench at the Arena.
New Orleans' first-round pick in 2001 is trying to make the
76ers as a free agent, but he did not play Tuesday..
Haston has played three minutes and has scored two points during
the preseason.
DAVIS URGES VOTERS Davis held a joint news conference Tuesday
with Herb Dixon, the state director for "Voices for Working
Families," in front of the New Orleans City Hall building to
urge voter participation in next month's presidential election.
"Just growing up, I've always thought what would one vote do
for me," Davis said.
