We've captured that magic in a new Xotic Effects pedal, the EP Booster. 好，這段是什麼意思呢？ 意思就是Jimmy Page、Eddie Van Halen、Eric Johnson都有用那顆EP3 但主要用是拿來當pre-amp 這pre-amp的意思我想應該不是當前級插Poweramp in 而是串在amp之前，利用EP3本身的特性去改變音色 EP booster就是擷取EP3改變音色的部分製成的一顆pre-amp booster 讓我們先看看Eddie本人在訪談裡怎麼說： http://azdz.tripod.com/articles/intdz-evh1995.htm It was that first homemade guitar with a cable going through an MXR flanger, then a Phase 90, and then an Echoplex, and straight into the Marshall head. 好，所以他在這顆EP3之前是沒有掛其他破音的 也就是說EP3它的使用方法是串在主破音之前 然後下面這網站詳細的介紹了Eddie在第一張專輯用的器材 http://wwwc.dcns.ne.jp/~epi/english.html 節錄其中一段： One of the keys of the early EVH guitar sound, I believe, is this Echoplex. Guitar tone becomes slightly fat, smooth and quite a little bit boosted through an Echoplex. Brian May commented that Eddie had come to the studio only with an old Marshall head and an echoplex for the "Starfleet" session. And that as for the guitar solo of Michel Jackson's "Beat it", VH official home page says "An old Marshall amplifier and cabinet were used, (though not his trusty Super Lead) and the solos were played on Edward's now-retired Charvel Frankenstrat along with an Echoplex." By listening to the two solos, you will notice that the echoplex did not play a role of a tape delay so much. 這顆甚至在Beat it裡面的錄製都有出現 而這顆EP3也是早期EVH的吉他音色的關鍵之一 今天一早收到後迫不及待的開始試玩 由於我目前的主要破音是使用Suhr Riot兒不是音箱破音 所以我將EP booster串在Riot之前 "slightly fat, smooth and quite a little bit boosted" 果然如同上面的網站所說，聲音會稍微變肥，平滑，然後推出來一點點 如果要用我自己的形容方法那就是 聲音變得更寬，頻率聽起來更自然，中頻感覺變多，Gain也會變多 不過音量部分乍聽之下沒甚麼大變化 這樣的聲音讓我在solo時更加輕鬆 搭配Riot可以輕鬆調出80'多汁tone 試用到目前非常滿意 也常會讓我一打開就不想關起來 雖然Eddie把這顆串在破音前面 但拿到手後還是會想找出最適合自己的擺放位置 所以當然也有試著放在Riot後，也就是 GT -> Riot -> EP -> Amp EP不踩還好，一踩下去音量就爆衝了 高頻鈍掉，Gain也有縮住的感覺 相較之下我比較喜歡EP booster串在破音前面的音色表現 值得一提的是背蓋打開後有兩個小開關 一個是bright boost一個是bass boost 出廠設定是bright on + bass off 試過所有組合後我還是維持原廠的設定 bright boost on會比較有穿透力 但是bass boost on的話感覺低頻量會過多 另外有人提到渲染的問題 EP booster個人覺得算渲染的有點大 畢竟這顆原本的賣點就是渲染音色 不過如果渲染後的音色是你所喜歡的 那不正是一種加分嗎？ -- "Dave wants girl, Dave can't have girl, Dave kills people!"
