To hear General Manager Otis Smith tell it, lots of teams have inquired about Marcin Gortat’s availability in a potential trade. But none of those teams have been willing to pay the price. “There’s a lot of teams out there interested in Gortat,” Smith said this afternoon. “If I’m a team and I look at our roster, I would say, ‘Yeah, there’s a big guy that doesn’t play a lot of minutes that could possibility help my team.’ So, I would make a call, too. “But we’re not interested in trading him unless the deal makes sense. At this point, we haven’t had one that made any sense to us.” Of course, this might be some gamesmanship on Smith’s part. He has, after all, misdirected the press on occasion about pending personnel moves. Still, Gortat’s agent, Guy Zucker, said the Magic have indicated they have no plans to trade Gortat. Gortat has just completed the first season of a five-year contract worth $34 million. Sure, capable centers are at a premium in the league.
