First-round pick gets major league deal, $3.2M signing bonus

The Orioles and first-round pick Brian Matusz have agreed to terms on a major
league deal that would immediately insert him onto the club's 40-man roster and
toward the top of the organization's list of pitching prospects.
Matusz, a left-hander out of the University of San Diego and the fourth overall
pick in June's amateur draft, will receive a $3.2 million signing bonus, The
Sun has learned.
"I'm excited," Matusz said. "It's been a long summer, a lot of talks going on
these last few weeks ... the last few days have been hectic. I haven't slept
much, with all the traveling and trying to get a deal done. It's a relief now
to have it done and start my professional career, and do what I've loved to do
since I was a little kid -- play baseball."
The Orioles will hold a news conference at 6 p.m. to announce the agreement.
