From:http://kuso.cc/39Qw -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guthrie, Loewen both sign deals Young pitchers agree on one-year contracts with Orioles 金鶯跟Guthrie和Loewen續一年約。 While questions continue to swirl around Erik Bedard's future in Baltimore, the Orioles took an important step toward shoring up the rest of their young rotation on Friday. Jeremy Guthrie and Adam Loewen, two of the team's most pleasant starting pitching surprises a year ago, both agreed to terms on one-year contracts with the Orioles. Guthrie, 28, was a rotation cog all summer, after the Orioles plucked him off waivers from the Indians last January. He finished his rookie season at 7-5 with a 3.70 ERA, stumbling a bit after the All-Star break but still establishing himself as one of the team's most consistent starters. "If someone said he was going to do this, I don't think they would have let him go in Cleveland," first baseman Kevin Millar said in June. "That's a true testament of somebody taking advantage of his opportunity." Millar評論 Loewen, 23, was also taking advantage of his opportunity, and making good on all his potential with a 2-0 record and 3.56 ERA over the season's first two months. But a left elbow injury and subsequent surgery knocked him out for the remainder of the summer, and he never had a chance to finish what would have been his first full season in the big leagues. Still, manager Dave Trembley has him tentatively slotted right behind Bedard in this season's rotation. "I've been away for like two weeks now, so I get baseball withdrawal," Loewen said in July. "It's definitely hard, [but] it does get easier every day. I've come to accept the fact that I won't pitch this year. I try to keep my mind off it as much as possible." Loewen感想。 Assuming Bedard remains with the Orioles all summer -- despite consistent rumors to the contrary -- he'll join Loewen and Guthrie at the top end of a bright young rotation. Combined, that trio was 22-10 starting games last year. Bedard and another member of the rotation, Daniel Cabrera, are expected to boost their salaries in the coming weeks. Both players are eligible for arbitration, and were due to exchange salary figures with the Orioles on Friday. The Orioles also announced on Friday that Mike Costanzo, a third-base prospect acquired from the Astros as part of the deal for Miguel Tejada, will report to Spring Training early to work with the catchers. Costanzo, 24, hit 27 home runs last year with Double-A Reading before heading first to Houston and then to Baltimore in two separate trades this winter. -- Let's fly Orioles︿(￣︶￣)︿ --
