I've done that when I came to the states for grad school 2 years ago.
But I just brought 2 hard drives, motherboard and DVD player,
and I bought the case, power and LCD here.
(So my carry-on was full of computer equipments XD)
but deanlin's right, it doesn't really save you much money
to bring a desktop from taiwan. My case is different, I wanted to have
both a laptop and a desktop, and I didn't want to spend extra money on
a desktop, so I decided to bring the one that I've been using with me.
if you're to get a brand new one, I'd suggest you get it in the states,
and save the sapce for instant noodles or other precious Taiwanese snacks
