How did you come to be cast on America's Next Top Model? It was my personal makeup artist Tawnie Tatum who actually got me to try out. An America's Next Top Model casting director saw pictures of me in her online portfolio, contacted us and invited me to audition. Tawnie and I drove from Dallas to Houston, which is pretty far away... we slept in her car - her car is a Beetle, so it was pretty small. I got dressed in a McDonald's bathroom. Even up to the last minute I wasn't sure if I wanted to try it, but Tawnie insisted, she was like, "You'll make it!" What caused your weight gain? When I came on the show I was still recovering from an eating disorder. The Top Model house was an alternative universe, we were not allowed out and other than the three flights of stairs there was no other way to exercise. I ate normally and no more than the other girls, but because my body had gone through so much abuse, my metabolism and digestion were out of whack. The food I ate pretty much got stored as fat and I gained a lot of weight. I am not like the other girls, they are tall and thin... they have great genetics. My family is Italian, I am big boned and naturally curvy. [Later in the interview London said she gained 15-20 pounds. Also, the show provided the food, the models would make a grocery list and someone from the production staff would do the shopping]. Did the judges know about your eating disorder? Yes. Were you surprised by the judges comments about your weight? Actually the judges had been commenting about my weight going back to the second episode, but it was not shown until the last few episodes. Do you still plan to pursue modeling? Yes, I have lost all of the weight I gained while on the show and I still want to model. Before the show, modeling was my main passion, but I believe that God humbled me before the nation to reveal that He has a different plan for me. So if I get booked I will definitely take the job, but modeling is not #1 anymore. I love fashion and I've wanted to go to FIT for fashion design and styling for years. [FYI... FIT is the Fashion Institute of Technology, a prestigious design school in New York City, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera and surprisingly film director Joel Schumacher are graduates ]. Were you surprised at your elimination? Yes and no. I was nervous and I struggled during the shoot, but when Jay pulled me to the side to talk, he still told me that I had gotten in some great shots and he loved what he was seeing. After the I was pretty sure that I was safe, in fact I have gone into other panels thinking that I could get eliminated, but not this one. Then when we got to panel and saw the photo and heard the judges comments then I knew that there was a good chance that I'd be on the bottom. About Ciara She is such a sweetheart and so down to earth! When I saw the shoes she was wearing and I was like, those are blanks, I almost bought those same shoes in a different color! We both laughed, even though I was eliminated, I really enjoyed the shoot. What did you learn from your Top Model experience? There are things that I knew about modeling, but it wasn't until I experienced it first hand, that I really knew. Like I knew that models are suppose to stay skinny and that there is a lot of rejection, but it was not until I experience d it first hand that I got the full effect. Overall, did you think that you were portrayed fairly and accurately? Yes, I do. I don't think they could portray me any differently than I was. I'm goofy... (laughs). There were things about me that you didn't see like me acting out my faith or my true potential as a model but that's reality TV. What aspect of your model potential didn't we see? At the photo shoots, Jay gave me lots of compliments and no major negative criticisms. I would feel very proud of how I performed and then at panel, when my picture was shown, the judges would just bash on it and bash on it. I often thought I had much better photos than what was shown, I don't know what goes on behind the scenes with Tyra and the judges and why. What was the most consistent positive and negative feedback that you got from the judges? The most consistent positive feedback was that I always smiled with my eyes... I was able to do Tyra's famous smiling with your eyes. The negative feedback, other than my weight, would be about relaxing my face. Also that I looked like I was trying too hard...some models think that squinting your eyes and pursing your lips will make a great photo, but they'd rather you look relaxed. [ Interviewer: Did you get similar advice fro photographers that you worked with before Top Model?] Yes, I did get comments about relaxing my face more...you think I'd take the advice from the Dallas photographers, but I didn't (laughs). Which judge (or judges) do you think supported you the most? Tyra. I felt she really cared and the majority of the time she was on my side. Nigel could be very critical, but I thought he was supportive. The other judge s did not seem to like me from the beginning, Paulina and Miss J felt like I was all wrong for modeling. Mr. Jay is my favorite, even though he's not a judge, he supported me every week. Would you like to comment on the critique that you got in the Creative Director challenge about how you styled your model? I worked real hard and gave a lot of thought about what looked best on Allison's body. Southpole is urban streetwear and while I kept in mind that it was mostly streetwear, I wanted to give it a rock twist. I also went for a nighttime look. Yes, I put on a headband which is my trademark, but the challenge came first and I dressed Allison in the look that worked best on her. Tell us about your makeover. I still have the blond hair, my roots are dark and people from all over the place tell me I look like Madonna. When I first got the makeover, I struggled like Fo did... it wasn't easy at to tap into my femininity, but I got used to it. I am going to keep it this way for a while, my old hair was long and string y and I needed a change. Tell us about how you developed your faith. I come from a Christian family, but they are more spiritual. When I was 10, I started going to church with my best friend and that is where my connection with God began. I didn't know my earthly father and that is part of what has made the relationship with my heavenly father even stronger. Were you bummed that you didn't get to go to Brazil? Ummm...ummm...(nervous chuckle)...ummm. Yes, not getting a chance to go to Brazil would be sad...ummm... who wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't get that chance. Is there anything that you would like to say to your fans? Thank you!! Without God and the fans, my experience on Top Model... it was good , but it wouldn't have meant near as much. Getting so much positive feedback from the fans made my experience on the show even better. The judges would be down on me about something or just my being there, but when I experienced it with the fans they seemed to appreciate my talents more. It was good finding out what the fans thought because there were things that I saw differently than the judges and many fans expressed feelings that were similar to mine.
