Ramos' winter league club confirmed the kidnapping to The Denver Post's Rafael Rojas and other reporters. Rojas is covering Ramos’ club for a Venezuelan newspaper. (AP Photo) Another Venezuelan newspaper, El Nacional (English translation here), reported that four armed men took the 24-year-old Ramos near his home in Valencia. Ramos' condition is not known, and there has been no word of possible demands by his captors. "Extremely upsetting news about Ramo. Thoughts and prayers with him. Scary situation," Nationals closer Drew Storen said via his Twitter account Wednesday evening. Ramos' kidnapping is the latest in a series of incidents involving major league players in Venezuela. Players and their families have been targets for at least a decade. In June 2009, the 11-year-old son of then-Colorado Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba was kidnapped, but returned safely. No ransom was paid, according to reports. In November of that year, the mother of pitcher Victor Zambrano was taken from Zambrano's farm near Maracay. She was rescued three days later. In September 2004, the mother of then-Detroit Tigers pitcher Ugueth Urbina was rescued after being held captive for 5 1/2 months. Earlier in the decade, Magglio Ordonez and Richard Hidalgo were robbery victims, while relatives of Melvin Mora and Omar Infante were murdered.
