Jon Heyman of TodaysKnuckleball.com reported Thursday that the Marlins have had “internal talks” about A-Rod, but Heyman also pointed out there “isn’t any evidence they will try to sign him.” The Yankees technically will release Rodriguez, effectively making him a free agent. Theoretically, Rodriguez then is free to sign elsewhere, and it wouldn’t be completely shocking to see him join the Fish. Rodriguez was born in New York, but the 41-year-old grew up in Florida, where he attended Westminster Christian School, just south of downtown Miami. He also lives in Miami during the offseason.
