A small sampling of executives put the projected value of Santana's payday at
$120 million to $135 million for five or six seasons. Beltran's contract --
seven years for $119 million -- is the most lucrative in Mets history. The
contract that covered Piazza from 1999 to 2005 cost the Mets $91 million.
"Santana's so good, though, he'll do so much for them," the GM said. "There's
not much chance of buyer's regret."
