There are number of difficult syncopated rhythmic figures throughout the ensemble, some of which are similar to jazz rhythmic ieas. The Percussion parts are written for nine players to include a piano/celeste combination. The composer suggests that if there are not enough players the conductor should select the most vital parts to be covered. The work calls for a solo soprano vocalist who sits withinthe ensemble to add a new and unique timbre. The part requires solid and extened range up to E-flat above the staff, and is intended for a vocalist with a pure tone and harmonics. There are numerous short solo line that must blend together to form the overall structure. The horn line in particular requires a solid lower register. There are numerous meter shifts throughout the work, and a constant juxta- position of ideas through the ensemble. ... Unit 5: Stylistic Considerations ...... The composer gives some suggestions in the score for the vocal solo line treatment. (請看總譜) The solo voice can be amplified but must blend carefully with the ensemble. The vocal part also has additional lines that are not marked or notated in the score. (所以要去看分譜) The composer suggests that these to be performed. The performance of the first theme clarinet duet in m27. is listd as 'acorney tones' (請想像冰原歷險記) and should convey a light and playful atmosphere. The meter shifts should be smooth and allow for a connected flow of the fragmented themes and lines. The middle section is marked arubatos and can be treated in different ways. The melodic ideas of this section will return in the closing section similar to a coda. This gives the conductor the opportunity to show diversity in the performance styles of these sections. ......and execute difficult rhythmic patterns smoothly. --
