今天早上 打開信箱 發現 Lance Miller寫信來!!! 會不會太酷了 裡面有些小鼓勵想跟大家分享一下 ______________________________________________________________________________ Jack, I want to congratulate you on making it to the finals of the District 67 Humorous Speech contest. It is quite an accomplishment to make it that far. I know the excitement of working a speech, being in the contest and the anticipation of taking home the winning trophy! I know all too well! If you recall my speech on Saturday, I said that I have lost more speech contests than I had ever won. Plus, I had thought I won more speech contest and lost them - more times than I won. Many times I felt the judging was unfair. But I had to look at the fact that there were several judges, it was not one person's decision. So, in the end I knew I needed to continue to improve my speeches to be able to get them across so well that no one could say I didn't win! I also had to remember that contest are about pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone. It is great to win, but the real value is in what we learn. Success is nice, but I have found that it is how I handle adversity and failure that defines who I am. My biggest lessons and the most growth I have had have come from failures. This is true in Toastmasters and in life. To me this is one of the great things about Toastmasters. It is a place where there is no consequence for failure. You get to get back up and do it again, until you do as well as you can or as well as you desire. There are few situations in life that are so forgiving with one's mistakes and allow for such fun friendly development. Here are a couple comments on your speech that I hope help you. You had some great material, with Nike/Nuke and the stories of your girlfriends. These are things that everyone can relate to. You have a great presence on stage with a good confront of the audience and a very pleasing voice and delivery. Your title was "Say it isn't so" and you used this in the very beginning, as I recall twice. Then it seemed that you switched your theme to "Life isn't fair/Life is fair." I would suggest that you keep a constant message throughout your speech and play off that to make your points and create your humor. Either message is a good one, but stick with one and make that your main point/message of your speech. You have a tremendous amount of potential as a speaker and I know that having Toastmaster skills will serve you well. Keep up the good work and I hope to see you on my next visit to Taipei!
