神木 溪頭位於南投縣鹿谷鄉鳳凰山麓，海拔１１５０米的高山上。氣候長年涼爽，溪頭最吸引 人的莫過於這裡的森林植物，這裡有台灣黃杉、蠻大杉、紅檜、台灣肖楠、日本扁柏等。 著名的溪頭神木屬紅檜巨木，樹齡將近３０００年，樹高４６米，樹圍１６．８米，主幹 早已朽空，中間包有一塊大石頭，像是大樹腹部結石一般。據說是當樹根從上往下生長時 連土帶石一起包圍起來，後來土被雨水沖走或被樹根吸收，留下石頭在樹皮裏，形成樹包 石的奇景。當年森林重整砍伐時因其經濟價值不高而得以留存至今 "Hsitou is located in Lugu Township in Nantou County, at the foot of Fenghuan (Phoenix) mountain at an elevation of 1150 meters. The climate is cool the entire year. The most appealing part of Hsitou are the forest plants like the big cedar (Taiwan Huang Shan), the Chinese juniper, Taiwan incense-cedar, Japanese cypress and so on. A famous tree growing near the stream is the Chinese juniper, which is nearly 3000 years old, 46 meters high and has a circumference of 16.8 meters. The branch is already decayed but a big stone still stands in the middle. It is said that the tree roots captured dirt and stones from the bottom when it grew. Afterward, the soil was absorbed by the tree or flushed away by the rain, leaving the stones within the bark of the tree, the tree thus capturing the stones. In past times, the forest was not cut down due to low values of its lumber, and therefore the forest as it was until now. --
