GfK Equity Research provides quantitative and qualitative research to hedge and pension funds investing in companies of the Telecom, Consumer Electronics and Information Technologies sectors; this includes Nokia, Motorola, Qualcomm, Samsung, Apple, TomTom, Corning, HP, Lexmark, SiRF, Tele Atlas, Navteq, etc. GfK point-of-sale data is the core of our research; to provide relevant and differentiated analysis to institutional investors we leverage the data, our industry contacts and our experience in the tech sector. GfK Equity Research is a selfcontained team of 25 people of 10 nationalities with offices in London, Paris, Boston and Hong Kong. GfK Equity Research Product and Value Proposition The team provides research on a growing number of technology sectors. The quantitative research we provide mostly consists of monitoring performances of tech companies such as Nokia by tracking market shares, volume growth, segment trends and ASP (average selling price) movements. On top of this we provide unique thematic research thanks to the proprietary POS data (e.g. how disruptive is the iPhone to the smartphone market since Apple allows operators to subsidise the device). We update our clients on the market dynamics via frequent newsletters which include analytical notes and data, via telephone and in-person briefings. Our value to our clients (TPI): Timely: Analysing new themes as soon as they emerge; fast/deep client service Primary: Using consistent data to assess market trends and vendor performance Incremental: Leverage GfK POS data to revenues / margins / earnings conclusions ahead of earnings Role The role consists of assisting the analysts to meet highly demanding clients’ expectations and to help provide in-depth analysis of the covered markets. This involves contributing to create and update spreadsheets as well as to add analytical value to the frequent reports. The goal is to 1) understand industry dynamics (handset industry move to smartphones), 2) link real-world information with our POS data in order to 3) analyse GfK data and help investors answer important questions that virtually nobody without our data, resources, expertise, insight, initiative and creativity can answer.
