Congratulations on the NTUplace team
Dear All,
I have great news for all of you.
Due to the tremendous efforts of Tung-Chieh, Zhe-Wei, Tien-Chang, and
Hsin-Chen, our NTUplace just
won the 3rd place at the ISPD-06 Placement
Contest. This is a huge sucess, which has put Taiwan under the spot light
of the world stage in the physical design community.
Actually, we are very clsoe to the #1. We got the #1 in the wirelength and
#2 overall in the quality measurement (wirelength + density). But the
1st-place team (the last-place team at last year's contest) is really fast
although its quality is far away from ours and mPL, 8%. It turns out that
the first three teams are very close in overall rating; the respective ratios
are 1.03, 1.04, and 1.05, followed by mFAR with the ratio 1.11.
Congratulations!! This is really something!! And I am sure that this won't
be the best moment of the life of each member of the NTUplace team.
BTW, this year we still got two papers accepted at DAC-06 even though the
acceptance rate is lower (< 20%). (Huang-Yu & Mei-Fang's routing &
redundant-via insertion, and Ping-Hung's bio-chip placement). It is a pity
that we still have great works getting rejected, though. (But this is a real
world!! We always need to live up with it.)
