1. The Latimer diagram of the oxidation/reduction of Mn in acidic condition is
shown below:

Caculate the reduction potential Mn → Mn and plot the Frost diagram under
both neutral and basic condition for Mn.
2. The boiling points of methanol and cyclohexane are 64.7 and 80.7℃ and
their heats of vaporization are 34.9 and 30.1 kJ/mol, respectively.
Determine the entropy of vaporization for these liquid and explain the
difference between them.
3. The bond angles for OF2 and H2O are 103°and 104.5°, respectively. The
dipole moments are 0.30D and 1.85D, respectively. Explain the factors that
cause such a large difference in the dipole moments of the molecules.
4. Ammonium chloride is observed to undergo abrupt change in heat capacity at
some temperature below the melting point. Describe the processes likely
responsible for these observations.
5. The length of the edge of the units cell for Na2O, which has the
antiflourite structure, is 555pm. For Na2O, determine the following:
(a)The minimum distance between Na ions.
(b)The minimum distance between oxide ions.
(c)The minimum distance between Na and oxide ions.
(Note: Flourite structure of CaF2 is a fcc arrangement of Ca with complete
filled tetrahedral hole by F.)

9. Tetrahedral hole is formed when four spheres of radius r are in contact and
are placed at alternate corners of a cube. The hole is inside the middle of
the cube. Find the length of the body diagonal of this cube and the radius
of the tetrahedral hole.
10.Arrange and explain the relative acidity of the following acids: H2SO4,
HSO3F, HSO3F + SbF5, and draw their structures.
