derive "Law of refraction".
31. A plane electromagnetic wave, with wavelength 3.0 m, travels in free space
in the +x-direction with its electric vector E, of amplitude 600 V/m,
directed along the y-axis. (a) What is the frequency ν of the wave? (b)
What are the direction and amplitude of the B field associated with the
wave? (c) If E = Em sin(kx - ωt), what are the values of k and ω for
this wave? (d) What is the time-averaged rate of energy flow per unit area
associated with this wave? (e) If the wave falls upon a perfectly
absorbing sheet of area 2.0 m^2, at what rate would momentum be delivered
to the sheet and what is the radiation pressure exerted on the sheet?
(10) A narrow beam of parallel light rays ix incident on a glass sphere from
the left, directed toward the center of the sphere. (The sphere is a lens
but certainly not a thin lens.) Approximate the angle of incidence of the
ray as 0 degree. And assume that the index of refraction of the glass is
n < 2.0. Find the image distance i (from the right side of the sphere) in
terms of n and the radius r of the sphere. Let n = 1.5, r = 4 cm
(9) Michelson's Interferometer
If Mirror M2 in Michelson's interferometer is moved through 0.2 mm,
fringes are counted. What is the wavelength of the light?

68. (a) At what angle of incidence will the light reflected from water be
completely polarized? (b) Does this angle depend on the wavelength of the
light?
(2) In Fig., an airtight chamber 5.0 cm long with glass windows is placed in
one arm of Michelson interferometer. Light of wavelength λ = 500 nm is
used. Evacuating the air from the chamber causes a shift of 60 frings.
From these data, find the index of refraction of air atmospheric pressure.
(23) Light of wavelength 440 nm passes through a double slit, yielding a
diffraction pattern whose graph of intensity I versus angular position θ
is shown in Fig.. Calculate (a) the slit width and (b) the slit separation.
(6) A ray of light goes through an equilateral triangular prism that is in the
orientation for minimum deviation. The total deviation is Φ = 30.0
degree. What is the index of refraction of the prim?
