Interrupt
-What is an interrupt?
The occurrence of an event is usually signaled by an interrupt from either
the hardware or the software. Hardware may trigger an interrupt at any time
by sending a signal to the CPU, usually by way of the system bus. Software
may trigger an interrupt by executing a special operation called a system
call (also called a monitor call).
-Interrupt vector
Containing the addresses of all the service routines
-Interrupt architecture must save the address of the interrupted instruction.
How does it save the instruction?
-Incoming interrupts are disabled while another interrupt is being processed
to prevent a lost interrupt
-A trap is a software-generated interrupt caused either by an error or a user
request.
-An operating system is interrupt driven.
-The operating system preserves the state of the CPU by storing registers and
the program counter
-Determines which type of interrupt has occurred
Polling
Vectored interrupt system.
Difference between normal I/O operation and direct memory access(DMA)?
The Single-Processor Systems and Multiprocessor Systems
-Advantages of Multiprocessor systems
1.Increased throughput.
2.Economy of scale
3.Increased reliability
Cache
-What is the difference between main memory and cache?
Main memory->DRAM cache->in CPU
