Technoligical advances have yielded a dramatic increase in the density of available genetic markers, necessitating an increase in the number of tests required for the analysis. As such, the multiple-tests correction becomes a critical issue. As an alternative to the conventional locus-specific concept, we applied the two approaches: longest significant run (LSR) and maxima excursion (ME), which estimate a region-specific p-value to provide an index of a most likely candidate region. An advantage of the methods is that only p-value data are needed and hence can be applied extensively to different study designs.
