Smith Players that just missed the cut: Francisco Garcia, O.J. Mayo, Ronnie Brewer. ***** I commented on many of these guys in my Top 100 article last week, but I'll chime in with a few random thoughts on some other SG's: * It is officially time to start worrying about Jamal Crawford if you already drafted him. And start bumping him down your rankings, if you haven't. Through five preseason games, Crawford is averaging fewer than 10 points per game. It was assumed Jamal would excel in D'Antoni's system, but JC's shot is off and he looks lost out on the court. Tuesday night, he was benched in favor of Stephon Marbury. I was covering the contest at MSG, and Crawford said all the right things to the media (as did Mike D'Antoni), but this is a not a good sign. I have no doubt Crawford will be starting on opening night, but I am just not sure what kind of production to expect this season. He won't be a bust, but he did average 40 minutes, 17.4 field-goal attempts, and over 20 points per game last season – and it is quite possible he will see those stats drop this season. * J.R. Smith is poised to post big numbers, if he can keep his head on straight. His second-half splits from '07-'08 have been well-publicized. Over the season's final 30 games, he averaged 15.7 points, 1.1 steals, and an incredibly impressive 2.6 three-pointers. The Nuggets don't have much depth, and with 'Melo and AI spreading the floor, Smith should get plenty of open looks. * Josh Howard is coming off a season in which he posted career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists. But his steals and blocks dipper rather dramatically. Which Josh Howard shows up this season? Will all the off-court drama affect him on the hardwood? * Howard's teammate, Jason Terry, worries me. His points, assists, rebounds, and FG% all dropped last season. He'll have big games from time to time, but his inconsistency is maddening. He will likely get drafted higher than he should because he is well-known name in fantasy circles, but he I will definitely let someone else select him. * Leandro Barbosa, and the rest of the Suns, may have their fantasy production damaged by the transition from D'Antoni to Porter. However, if you take Nash (and his bum ankle/back), it would behoove you to select Barbosa later on. * I am super high on John Salmons as a sleeper. People seem to forget how well he played for Sacramento for stretches last season. Salmons started 41 games for the Kings and in those games he averaged 17.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.6 steals. If you can grab him in the 8 or 9th round, he is a steal. * If Randy Foye ever stays healthy, he'll make noise. He started 31 games for the T-Wolves over the second half of the season. In those starts he averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 assists, and 1.7 three-balls. --
