And he may make history next week in the NBA draft. Singh Bhamara, who had a workout for the Dallas Mavericks, has a decent chance of being the first person ever born in India to be drafted by an NBA team. He’s considered a fringe second-round pick, but his sheer size and the fact that he’s only 19 years old has a few teams picking late in the second round toying with the idea of taking him. For the record, the Mavericks have pick No. 52. Singh Bhamara has played for the IMG Academy team in Florida for the past several years. He’s hopeful that he’ll become the first Indian citizen to be drafted and play in the NBA. His skills are raw, but during the 2014-15 season, he averaged 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in less than 20 minutes per game for the IMG club team. The imposing physical specimen did not receive any scholarship offers to play for an American college. This could mark the first time since high schoolers became ineligible for the draft in 2005 that a player could be selected without playing in college, overseas or in the NBA Development League.
