http://tinyurl.com/k5bpx67 Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has high praise for the Dallas Mavericks' front office and former forward Chandler Parsons. Compliments aside, there's a reason Houston declined to match the Mavs' offer to Parsons. "The contract (Parsons) got...the Mavericks are a smart organization; they obviously wanted to get him...that structure of that (contract) is literally one of the most untradeable structures I've ever seen," Morey told KBME-AM 790 in Houston. According to a Houston Chronicle report, Parsons' contract states that he can't be traded until Jan. 15, 2015. And, following the 2014-2015 season, his approval is required for any trade in which he's involved. Parsons is also able to opt out of his contract after two seasons. Dallas' offer to him is for three years and $46 million. Of course, as SportsDay's Eddie Sefko points out, it's only an "untradable" contract if someone desires Parsons be traded. No one in the Mavs' organization intends to trade Parsons. Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson echoed that sentiment Monday on KESN-FM 103.3. "We're not looking to move (Chandler Parsons). We hope he's here for a long, long time," Nelson said. "In terms of the trade-ability, we've had some pretty interesting contracts in past and were able to get off of them. So I don't think there's such a thing as an untradable contract. But that's clearly not the spirit of which we're doing this." Morey said the Rockets have a "better chance" to win an NBA title without the constraints of Parsons' contract. Armed with salary-cap space, a trade exception and a favorable draft pick, Houston is in the market to find Parsons' replacement. For the Mavs, Parsons is a dynamic 3-point shooter, hitting 37 percent for his career. With his size, he can stretch the floor and he also is a gifted passer. His rebounding is adequate and has improved every season, as have his assists and scoring. There still are spots to fill on the roster, but the Mavs now have a team that has upgraded — offensively at least — at small forward and made a significant upgrade at center. Their point guard position remains uncertain, but with Harris and Felton, they have two players who have started a lot of games. And Nowitzki and Ellis proved last season they are a potent combo on the pick and roll.
