Here's three When Jason Terry's potential game-tying 3-point attempt with 23 seconds to play against Chicago didn't go down Thursday night it should not have come as a great shock. As money as Terry can be and has been this season in the fourth quarter, his 3-point shot has abandoned him. He's not the only one. Jason Kidd is firing blanks, too. In the last eight games, those two have combined to go 20-of-73 (27.4 percent) from beyond the arc. Excluding Wednesday's Lakers win when both went nuts (a combined 9-of-14), they're 11-of-59 (18.6 percent). At least Kidd has heated up in the last two games, going 7-of-12. For the season, Terry,who was 1-of-5 from the arc Thursday, is shooting the long ball at a career-low pace of 32.8 percent. Kidd, who has nailed it better than 40 percent the past two seasons, is at 33.7 percent. Adding to the misery, J.J. Barea is at 25.3 percent. As a team, the Dallas Mavericks rank eighth in the league in 3-point attempts a game (20.8), ninth in 3-pointers made (7.5), but just 15th in 3-point field-goal percentage (35.9). That's a significant problem and one the Mavs think a healthy Peja Stojakovic can help to remedy. Stojakovic has given the Mavs a verbal commitment to join the team once he clears the 48-hour waiver period. The Toronto Raptors waived him Thursday. He's not the All-Star he once was and he's been troubled by knee issues this season, reducing his playing time to eight games. Yet, in those games he's buried the long-ball 15 times on 31 attempts. He made 4-of-6 against the Mavs in early November, scoring 17 points in 19 minutes. The 3-ball is one reason the Mavs signed Sasha Pavlovic, who is in the early stages of his second 10-day contract. He's made 3-of-11 from beyond the arc in his six games. DeShawn Stevenson has emerged as the Mavs' most reliable 3-point shooter, and if not for Roddy Beaubois' extended injury absence, he might not even be playing. Stevenson, too, has also seen his percentage dip recently. Caron Butler had actually become a consistent threat from beyond the arc at 43.1 percent, but he's out for the season after knee surgery. Poor 3-point shooting is lethal for the Mavs, a team that doesn't possess terrific low-post scoring threats and doesn't score a lot of points in the paint. Against Chicago, they were 7-of-22 from 3-point range, scored 16 points in the paint and had two fastbreak points. Hence, they scored 77 points. Conversely, in scoring 109 against the Lakers, the Mavs nailed 12-of-26 from downtown (46.2 percent).
