Rodriguez was scheduled to appear for Class AAA Tacoma in a game in Round Rock, Texas, on Monday, but was recalled by the Mariners in the afternoon when Brendan Ryan was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Ryan stayed behind in Anaheim, Calif., on Monday, where an examination of the left shoulder he injured in an on-field collision with Adam Kennedy last week found it to have a sprained AC joint. The Mariners placed Ryan on the DL — retroactive to Aug. 4 — and recalled Rodriguez, who had to hop in a car for the 3 ½ -hour drive here. Rodriguez arrived just after the start of the game and could be seen shaking hands and greeting teammates in the dugout. Mariners manager Eric Wedge said pregame of Ryan's shoulder: "We were afraid that something might have been torn in there." Wedge said he hoped Ryan would be ready to go in the next 10 days to two weeks and could come off the DL when eligible.
