The Reds skipper revealed the trophy meant so much to him, he found it almost impossible to let it go. He clung to the prestigious silverware at the after-match press conference and throughout the celebrations back at the team hotel - then sneaked it into his room. He said: "I slept with the trophy in my room after the final, I didn't want it out of my sight. someone took it away from me on Thursday morning, I felt as though I had somehow lost a part of me. "I also woke up in the morning with my medal still around my neck. It was an incredible night, just ridiculous really, and I didn't want to let it go." The England star said he had been inspired by pictures of previous Liverpool captains hoisting the cup aloft. "Winning that cup and holding it up was the greatest moment of my life, it is a memory that will always stay with me." He has now pledged his future to Liverpool, and said yesterday he wants to agree a new contract quickly.
