Graduate Student Recruitment
The Animal Physiology Laboratory at the Department of Biological Sciences of
Missouri University of Science and Technology is seeking master’s graduate
students to participate in Metabolic Basis of Aging Research. In general our
lab studies the energetics of growth, reproduction and health maintenance,
and models the tradeoffs between these life history traits for understanding
aging from the metabolic viewpoint. The lab currently has two projects in
this area. In the first project, we try to develop a quantitative and
predictive model for understanding the mechanisms underlying how food
restriction extends animals’ lifespan. The second project focuses on the
energy budget of reproduction. We try to understand the energetic basis of
fecundity, gestation length, birth weight, and other traits associated with
reproduction.
I am looking for highly motivated students who have enthusiasm for science,
and good communication skills in English, and have taken College Calculus I
(or equivalent). It is expected that the student will start in the spring
semester 2012. If you are interested in conducting research in my laboratory,
please contact Professor Lin at
[email protected].
