http://tinyurl.com/2dmqhgy La Liga Team Of The Week: Round Four Goal.com picks the best performers from the midweek matches in the Primera Division... By Paul Macdonald Formation: 5-2-3 Goalkeeper David de Gea (Atletico Madrid) The 19-year-old goalkeeper makes the team for the second round in succession, a feat in itself, but then after the string of saves this astonishing young shot-stopper has made in the past week, he deserves to retain his spot. Against Valencia he was once again imperious, this time making two wonderful saves from substitute Roberto Soldado, and although he was eventually beaten by a wonderful Aduriz header, los Colchoneros would have not left with a share of the points had it not been for the prodigious De Gea. Defenders Mikel San Jose (Athletic Bilbao) The former Liverpool youngster has moved to San Mames on a permanent basis now, and against Mallorca he helped Joaquin Caparros’ side clinch their first home win of the season, providing an assured defensive influence to keep the Islanders at bay. Indeed, the 21-year-old also showed his assuredness and composure by slotting home a second half penalty kick with aplomb after Nunes’ handball, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and opening his account for the season. Gabriel Milito (Barcelona) Despite the injury woes of the Argentine international, his intent is to be a viable central defensive option for coach Pep Guardiola - and although the opposition were sub-standard, he provided evidence that he can offer the Blaugrana an alternative to the Pique-Puyol partnership. Indeed, he was preferred to Pique in the win versus Sporting Gijon, and although he wouldn't have expected to be called upon too often, against one of La Liga's lesser lights his composure and defensive cover helped see out what proved to be a tricky fixture for the Blaugrana. Milito was the calming influence in Barca's win Javi Venta (Levante) It took the newly-promoted side a considerable time to record their first victory of the season, but when it arrived it served as belief that Levante have the capability to succeed at this level, and veteran Javi Venta played a vital role in that victory. The 34-year-old understands the standards required to compete in La Liga, and the former Yellow Submarines defender continues to be a consistent performer both at home and on the road, being pivotal in the 1-0 win over Almeria. Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid) The Uruguayan was a difficult choice given the fact that his side failed to gain the result from a winning position versus Valencia, but it is hard to argue that the former Villarreal stopper is exactly the defender Atleti needed. He excelled in the win over Athletic Bilbao, but on Wednesday night it took until the 83rd minute in order to drag Godin out of position and allow Los Che to score. On a more fortunate evening, Godin would have been the hero of the piece. Pablo Pinillos (Racing Santander) Not only did the veteran defender restrict Sevilla to a single goal, he was instrumental in the movement to scrape his side back into the match. For a defender, his volley was stunning, an arrow into Palop's top corner, and one that gave the Verdiblancos an encouraging draw against Primera Division opposition who are struggling to win at home. Midfielders Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) Jose Mourinho’s side are struggling to find their rhythm from a performance perspective this season, but the former Liverpool midfielder has been a constant driver from the centre of the pitch, and offered his best display of the season so far in the win over Espanyol. Despite the Santiago Bernabeu pitch resembling, in Mourinho’s words, “a potato field”, Alonso’s distribution remained superior to anyone else on the pitch, keeping possession but also displaying his supreme adeptness at making long passes look easy. Eliseu (Malaga) Why is it that this Malaga team perform better away from home? Certainly, in Eliseu’s case, it is that he enjoys returning to his former club with a passion no matter where the venue, and his precise but dangerous attacking allowed his Andalucian colleagues to emerge victorious. After an underachieving 2009-10 in Serie A with Lazio then on loan with Real Zaragoza, Eliseu is performing where he should be, at the forefront of a Boquerones attack who could surprise a few teams this season. Strikers Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) CR7 is by no manner of means back to his prolific, devastating best of last season, but took a huge step in the right direction in the victory over Espanyol at the Bernabeu. He showed immense nerve after being forced to retake his first half penalty kick, and his sublime pass through to colleague Gonzalo Higuain helped see off los Periquitos’ valiant challenge. He is slowly but surely regaining his confidence, and also displayed a team ethic that will appease Jose Mourinho no end. Aritz Aduriz (Valencia) The former Mallorca striker has been regarded by some as the bargain signing of the summer, and against Atletico Madrid Aduriz displayed all of the characteristics that made coach Unai Emery covet his services. After suffering a frustrating opening period, the 29-year-old notched his second of the season with a perfectly-timed header to finally defeat the inspired De Gea and maintained Los Che’s unbeaten start to the new season, and clearly enjoyed sharing the field with fellow striker Roberto Soldado. David Villa (Barcelona) 'El Guaje' was facing up to his first club for the first time in the colours of the Blaugrana, and he duly made his mark by netting the only goal in what was a subdued victory at the Camp Nou. In the absence of Lionel Messi through injury, Villa came to the fore and was far and away the most vibrant attacking element of Pep Guardiola's team. His neat finish at the beginning of the second half was just reward for an impressive display.
