As always when deciding on these MVP rankings, we factor in individual player production (via both standard stats and advanced metrics) as well as team performance/success. Front Runners: 1. Amar'e Stoudemire – New York Knicks (26.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.5 apg): Could it be - a member of the New York Knicks in serious consideration for the MVP? It still doesn't seem quite right. Not after the franchise spent a full decade as a league-wide laughingstock. But the Knicks sudden and dramatic resurgence is a significant part of the reason why Amar'e deserves so much credit. As important as the points, rebounds, and blocks Amar'e has brought to the table – the swagger, confidence, and attitude he has supplied, which has permeated every crevice of this organization, has been just as important. "The Knicks are back!" That was the first thing Amar'e told the New York media when he signed back in July; and his proclamation was met initially with chuckles and derision. Fast-forward six months later and it is Amar'e (and jubilant Knicks fans) who are sporting huge grins. Tuesday night's victory over the Spurs, who sauntered into MSG with the NBA's best record, may have been the Knicks most important victory since Bill Clinton was in office. Amar'e spearheaded the attack, pouring in nine fourth-quarter points – to raise him league-best 4th quarter scoring average to nearly 7.5 ppg. Friday night will be a homecoming of sorts for Amar'e, as he returns to the Valley of the Sun for the first time in an opponent's uniform. And looking at the current record of both his former and present teams serves to highlight Stoudemire's "value." The Suns finished last season 26 games above .500; right now Phoenix find themselves four games below .500 heading into their Friday night showdown with the Knicks.
