The forward who suffered a broken jaw against Portland on Monday night will undergo a procedure at Sacramento's Mercy General Hospital this evening that is the lesser of two evils. In order to surgically repair his left mandibular angle fracture, Abdur-Rahim's jaw will be immobilized and wired shut for six weeks. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Brian Royse, and Abdur-Rahim will be reevaluated in two to three weeks. The alternative was a procedure in which a plate was inserted into the jaw area. The recovery time would have been much longer.
