The singer says of ex-husband Russell Brand that she "was in love with him when I married him" in 2010. She also adds that she hasn't heard from the comedian since Brand texted her on New Year's Eve of 2011 to say he wanted a divorce, about 14 months later. She also goes on to say she blamed herself for their breakup until she "found out the real truth" which she "can't necessarily disclose." Perry also opens up to Vogue about her on-again-off-again relationship with John Mayer saying she "was madly in love with him" and still is. She also says he has a "beautiful mind" and a "tortured soul." Perry sites the touring atmosphere as one of the main reasons her and Brand had problems, saying her ex-husband didn’t like the "atmosphere of [Perry] being the boss on tour." "I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending," said Perry of her divorce. “ But then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day. I let go and I was like: This isn't because of me; this is beyond me. So I have moved on from that." Regardless of the issues that transpired between the two, Perry also praised Brand in the interview for being a "very smart man." "I was in love with him when I married him, [but] let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011," said Perry. Additionally, she touched briefly on her relationship with singer John Mayer, admitting that she was and still is "madly in love with him."
