She hopes to repeat the sell-out success of her performances at the Esplanade's Huayi - Chinese Festival of Arts earlier this year. The homegrown pop star, whose career spans 18 years with hits such as Heartache, will do away with pyrotechnics and multiple changes of spectacular costumes. Instead the intention is to present a more intimate and acoustic performance. She says of the change from typical Mandopop concerts: 'There are times where you really appreciate a mee siam or laksa, where it's really rich and all the flavours are heavy and intense. And there times where the most sublime dish you've ever eaten could be just made of good olive oil, pepper and sea salt - and that's what I'm trying to do.' When Chan, 38, performed at Huayi in February, it marked her return to show business after a seven-year hiatus. Her first show at 1,600-seat Esplanade Concert Hall quickly sold out. A second show was added and it was sold out too. The Grand Theater is a larger venue, with 2,155 seats. Chan will also be working with lighting designer Dorothy Png, who was nominated for her work in the musical December Rains at the Life! Theatre Awards this year, to create that experience with ' minimalist theatrical-style lighting'. Tickets will be available at all Sistic outlets from Aug 8, 2011. --
