Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro says the memory of lifting
the World Cup trophy aloft will remain with him forever.
The Juventus defender became the first man to captain Italy
to glory since Dino Zoff in 1982 and he's obviously ecstatic.
“I still have goose-bumps,” said the stopper.
“You get flashbacks of moments from your career
and it's such a great honour to hold up the trophy,
not to mention representing a wonderful nation like Italy.
It was fantastic.”
Cannavaro說：「我還在起雞皮疙瘩！你的足球生涯片段會不斷閃過眼前，
能夠舉起這個獎盃真是莫大的光榮，更別說是代表像義大利這樣美好的國家了，
這一切都太美好了～」
Cannavaro led by example on the field of play,
but was eager to underline that everyone in the squad
and set-up had a part to play in Germany 2006 victory.
“We had a slow start, all the way from Coverciano,
but we immediately slotted into the World Cup mentality,” he noted.
談整趟世界盃，Cannavaro說：「我們比較慢熱，一直到在國家隊集訓地都是，
不過我們立刻進入了打世界盃的精神狀態。」
“Team spirit was essential, as everyone who came off
the bench contributed and those who were left out never complained.”
「團隊精神是不可缺少的，每個從替補席上場的隊員有所貢獻，
沒有上場的隊員也從來不曾抱怨。」
The Napoli-native put in another powerful performance
against France in the Final and made a number of crucial tackles
throughout the 120 minutes.
“I was a little hard on the French forwards, as it's a tense game
and you have to make your presence felt immediately,” he stated.
“We knew they were strong physically and technically,
so it was bound to be tough.
Cannavaro對法國隊的決賽表現仍然非常出色，他說：
「我對法國前鋒比較強硬，因為這是場很緊繃的比賽，
你必須讓自己的存在立刻被感覺到，我們瞭解他們在體能與技術上很出色，
所以一定要打得兇悍一點才行。」
“The dismissal of Zinedine Zidane? I honestly don't know what happened.
Whatever Marco [Materazzi] said, it cannot have deserved
a reaction like that. It was totally unacceptable.”
「Zidane的紅牌出場？老實說我不知道發生了什麼事，
不過無論 Materazzi說了什麼，都不該得到這樣的反應，那是難以接受的。」
Cannavaro, like teammate Gianluca Zambrotta, was keen to dedicate
the victory to hospitalised Juventus team manager Gianluca Pessotto.
“Of course, our thoughts go to Pessotto. We have won our battle
and now it's his turn to win his personal challenge,” he concluded.
談到要將世界盃獻給 Pessotto，Cannavaro說：
「當然！我們的心思都放在他身上了，
我們贏得了比賽，現在換他要贏下跟自己的個人挑戰了。」
