Chile, who finished fourth in the South American qualifiers to win a spot in the World Youth Championship, went ahead in the eighth minute when forward Nicolas Canales met a cross from Jose Fuenzalida on a counter. The home team rallied hard and created scoring chances, but they had to wait until the 78th minute for the equalizer. Mizuno, coming off the bench at halftime, headed in a free-kick from Shunsuke Maeda, also a second-half substitute. Mizuno, who plays for JEF United Chiba, said, "I'm glad I could score at that time of the game. But I couldn't find the net again, although I had a few more chances.
