MAKASSAR - Two headed goals from Hideo Oshima and Masato Yamazaki gave
Yokohama F Marinos a 2-0 win over Indonesia's PSM Makassar on Wednesday
night.
While the J.Legaue champions never truly dominated and struggled, especially
early on, the result puts the Japanese outfit back on track after last week's
home defeat to Shandong Luneng.
The three points puts Takeshi Okada's side second in the group on three
points, three behind pace-setters Shandong, who picked up their second win
in a row with a 1-0 win over BEC Tero Sasana earlier in the afternoon.
With Tatsuhiko Kubo and his Korean strike partner Ahn Jung-hwan out with
long-term injuries, much was expected of Oshima, who scored a hat-trick at
the weekend in the Marinos' 3-2 win over Cerezo Osaka.
And it was Oshima who opened the scoring for the visitors on the half-hour
mark when the rangey striker managed to get in front of defender Abraham
Tobias onto the end of Dutra's free-kick from the right to plant a diving
header past Hengky Oba in the PSM Makassar goal.
PSM enjoyed brief periods of dominance but failed to put Tatsuya Enomoto in
the Marinos goal under any real pressure until the 52nd minute when the
keeper came to collect but was beaten to the ball by Osvaldo Moreno's header.
Unfortunately for the Paraguayan, the ball bounced wide of the open goal.
Eleven minutes later, the Marinos doubled their lead, again with a header.
This time, Hayuma Tanaka was the provider, his cross from the by-line finding
Yamazaki, who timed his run into the box to perfection to plant a header wide
of Oba.
Although PSM continued to press, the closest they came to a goal after
going two down was a long-range effort from Indonesia natinonal team skipper
Ponaryo Astaman.
