Indians pitching coach Belcher steps down
CLEVELAND (AP)—Indians pitching Tim Belcher has stepped down from that job
to spend more time with his family.
Belcher spent two seasons on manager Manny Acta’s staff. He will return to a
position as a special assistant in Cleveland’s front office, a spot he held
from 2002-09. Belcher said he was afraid he would not be able to balance his
job duties with the club and time with his family.
The Indians have not named a replacement for Belcher.
Belcher is the second Cleveland coach to leave his job in the past two days.
On Wednesday, bench coach Tim Tolman revealed he has Parkinson’s disease.
First-base coach Sandy Alomar has been tabbed as Tolman’s replacement,
assuming he stays with the club. Alomar is expected to interview to be the
Chicago White Sox manager.
