CLEVELAND (TICKER) —The Cleveland Indians on Friday signed righthanders Matt Herges and Jack Cassel to minor league contracts and invited them to spring training as non-roster players. Herges, 38, has a career record of 40-34 and a 3.94 ERA in 537 games for seven over his 17-year professional career. He joins Steve Finley as the only players in major league history to have played on every team within a five-team division, both appearing for all five National League West clubs. Herges spent last season with the Colorado Rockies, posting a 3-4 record with a 5.04. He was placed on the disabled list in late August with lower back stiffness. Cassel, 28, has appeared in 15 games - seven starts - over parts of the last two seasons with the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros. He has a career record of 2-2 with a 4.92 ERA. Cassel is the older brother of New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. --
