Robbie Keane was delighted to topple his previous best goal tally for a season at Reading - but more interested in grabbing the win for the fans. The striker’s first half effort covered both bases - it was his 23rd in all competitions, taking him past last season's 22 and secured the 1-0 win, ending a run of four successive 1-1 draws. Robbie - who passed the 100-goal mark for us in January - has scored 13, 16, 17, 16, 22 and now 23 goals in all competitions season by season since joining us in August, 2002. “I always say it’s important to beat what you did last season and I’ve been lucky enough to do that for most seasons at Tottenham,” said Robbie, current skipper in Ledley King’s absence. “From a personal point of view I’ m delighted with that but the most important thing was to win, especially for the fans who come to watch us week in, week out. “We want to finish the season well. We’ve drawn too many games of late and it’s important to get good results before the end of the season.” Robbie was the focal point of Saturday’s impressive attacking display as he dropped slightly deeper behind Darren Bent. “The first half performance was tremendous and it must have been great to watch because it was great to play in,” he reflected. “We kept it simple, kept the ball and our movement was great. “We all knew Reading needed to win but we just wanted to play our game. “Everyone played their part and the only disappointment was not adding to the one goal.
