Juande Ramos was left to rue a host of missed opportunities as Bolton escaped with a precious point from the Lane on Saturday. We dominated possession throughout but struggled to break down the massed ranks of the Bolton defence in a goalless first half - the visitors lining-up 4-5-1, often with nine men behind the ball. We were shocked less than 30 seconds into the second half when Stelios poked Bolton into the lead. The response was swift as Steed Malbranque slotted home Robbie Keane's deflected shot six minutes later and then the chances came as we clicked up a gear. Ali Al Habsi saved from Keane, Lennon shot straight at the keeper, Malbranque miscued his volley from close range, Al Habsi brilliantly tipped wide Dimitar Berbatov's low drive, Darren Bent went clean through but couldn't lift the ball over the keeper, Jonathan Woodgate headed Jermaine Jenas' corner just wide, Danny Guthrie cleared Bent's header off the line and then, finally, Berbatov was left with a free header eight yards out in added time only to miss the target. "I think the players tried to do the best they possibly could, we had some great chances and perhaps the final shot wasn't as accurate as it could have been," reflected Juande.
