Spurs capitalised on City's slow start by opening the scoring on five minutes through Jermain Defoe's close-range finish. The visitors survived the sending off of Didier Zokora to clinch the game in the closing stages through Steed Malbranque. "We started well. Getting off to a good start is important in these kind of games," Spurs' assistant boss told Sky Sports. "We passed the ball around, we created chances, we scored, we nearly scored a second one. "Then the game changed through a decision, but we're very happy with the players. Everyone is the dressing room is happy. "Many things were important today, being in the semi-finals, the clean sheet and also to keep believing despite having 10 men. Goal-scorer Defoe had to be sacrificed following Zokora's dismissal, although Poyet believes he will have more chances in the starting XI. "I think he took (going off) really well," he continued. "He knew it would have to be him. He wasn't happy because of the sending off. "He had the chance to start and he scored, but unfortunately he was picked by the manager to come off. He'll have chances. Don't worry." The former Leeds man refused to discuss Zokora's controversial sending off for fear of landing himself in hot water with The FA. "I was surprised. Elano didn't even go down.
