Martin Jol was disappointed not to win Thursday night's UEFA Cup first round, second leg against Anorthosis Famagusta. In a bit of a dead rubber of a tie with us 6-1 up from the first leg at the Lane, chances came and went and the home side cashed in when Pereira finished well from the edge of the box. The lead didn't last that long though as two subtitutes combined - Gareth Bale's dart down the left, his cross dummied by Darren Bent for Robbie Keane to drill into the top corner. That's how it stayed and we progressed into the group stages with a 7-2 aggregate. Martin reflected: "You always want to win games and it wasn't easy to be 6-1 up from the first leg and come here, one day's preparations and it was a strange feeling, like a pre-season game in that it was so warm. "We played several different players and I felt we could take that gamble. "We lacked a bit of rhythm in the second half and the only thing disappointing thing was I couldn't take off the likes of Huddlestone and Zokora because we wanted to get something out of the game. "Gareth Bale is very good going forward and Robbie Keane is a great finisher and we needed them both. "I wanted to win and that's why I put Adel Taarabt on, he can change things. We had the chances and if you don't take them, you have to settle for a draw. At the end of the day we've won 7-2 on aggregate and we're into the group stages." Martin could afford a smile as he talked about Famagusta's goal - Frousos blatantly handled in the box before Pereira's fine finish. "We wanted to keep a clean sheet but if you saw their goal, I'd still consider this game a clean sheet!" he laughed.
