新聞來源 - Sky Sports Jol unhappy for Defoe Tottenham boss Martin Jol feels striker Jermain Defoe has been treated badly by England chief Sven Goran Eriksson. Defoe is due to return home from the World Cup finals after Wayne Rooney was passed fit to join the squad. Diminutive marksman Defoe had been placed on standby by Eriksson, with the Tottenham man acting as cover in case Rooney failed to shrug off his metatarsal injury. Defoe impressed Eriksson and his England team-mates with his commitment in training, but the results of Rooney's scan prompted the Swede to inform the Spurs man he would no longer be required. Spurs boss Jol was left baffled as to why Defoe had been omitted from the original 23 in May and is unhappy his man has been discarded again. "I think Sven has made a mistake because Holland, Germany and Brazil have all got four senior strikers in their squads," Jol told The Sun. "England have probably only two plus an injured Rooney." Defoe missed out on a place at Euro 2004 despite impressing in the warm-up games and Jol added: "I think it is unbelievable that Eriksson has left him out again." England midfielder Steven Gerrard went some way to revealing how highly Defoe is rated within the squad by saying: "Jermain has been really professional. He's shown a great attitude. "Everyone knows he's a fantastic talent and the players are really sad to see him go but unfortunately the manager can only pick 23 players.
