Jol rues missed chances Martin Jol was left to muse over Tottenham Hotspur's profligacy after a 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United. Wayne Rooney's first half double condemned Spurs to a home loss which dented the club's chances of claiming fourth spot in The Premiership. But Spurs missed a glut of opportunities, particularly in the opening stages of the game, and Jol was frustrated by the outcome. "We played ever so well and it was the best 20 minutes since I've been here and we had five or six big chances," Jol told Sky Sports 1. "But we couldn't take our chances and they caught us on the break. "We had a corner kick, Lennon challenged for the ball and he shouldn't have done that. "The second goal was a mistake, a bad mistake, but we should have scored in the first 10 minutes. "In the second half we kept our shape. They played on Friday, we played on Saturday, but I couldn't notice that, so it was a big compliment." Spurs now play North London rivals Arsenal on Saturday, with the result likely to have a major bearing on who takes the fourth UEFA Champions League berth. Jol admits the defeat to United is a setback, but is determined to head to Highbury in search of a positive result. He added: "I think that was a big disappointment. In the second half, we scored an early goal and maybe deserved another one, but we couldn't do that.
