The Belgian tennis icon hardly seemed to have missed a beat since the Wimbledon final back in early July; her last match played in the summer. Today was no different, and down went Italy's Mara Santangelo at 6-2 6-3. Justine has reached her first semi-final at the Pilot Pen and will play friendly rival Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova on Friday. Mara Santangelo (WTA #40) entered the Pilot Pen main draw with the lucky loser card due to Dinara Safina's withdrawal. The Italian defeated Myskina, but benefitted from an walk-over given by this season's breakout player Li Na due to an unfortunate ankle sprain. Santangelo's luck ran out today against Justine. Improved serves, and classic Justine all court play kept Santangelo from scoring games. Spirited play by the Italian, but all to no avail as Justine took the double breakpoint advantage, and never looked back. Nicely fought last game, but the 5x grand slam champion showed her pedigree. It was 6-2 in 40 minutes for the first set. Justine began the second set by breaking Santangelo. The Italian on the other hand was still unable to get even near a breakpoint on the dashing Belgian's service games. It was more Justine in flight magic as she went in for the finish at 5-3. Final score: 6-2 6-3 in 1h17 --
