The Belgian, a finalist at The Championships in 2001, made light work of Anna Chakvetadze to book her expected place in the fourth round and said afterwards she wasn’t thinking any further than that. She said: “I just go match after match. I don't see [this year] as the big opportunity here. I'm in the fourth round here, so that's a good step. But next match is going to be my next goal. I don't want to look too far.” When asked if she was troubled by not having won Wimbledon despite having collected the other three Grand Slams since that 2001 final, she said: “It doesn't bother me. I mean, it's a challenge, so it's great. I need challenges. “And when I was a little girl, I was dreaming of winning the Grand Slam one day. I almost won everything. Just Wimbledon I never won.” And despite having not reached those heights again at the All-England Club, she stressed that she is a better grass court player now than the 19-year-old woman who lost to Venus Williams in 2001’s final. “You always have something to improve, and it's been good in the first week I could keep my energy. So physically I feel pretty well right now. “Now you just have to keep going and play match after match, keep playing, go forward, attacking the ball, you know, take the opportunities and do what I have to do on the court. So it's not easy in every match, but that's what I'm trying to do. “I just improved generally, not only on grass. I became a different player, a different person. I grew up a lot, took a lot of experience. “I wasn't playing an aggressive game at that time. That's what I'm trying to change right now.
